Legacy modernization & migration

Your software shouldn’t hold your business back.

Modernize aging applications, reduce technical debt, and plan a safe migration without unnecessary rewrites.

PHP upgrades · Framework & dependency upgrades · Refactoring · Architecture assessment · Cloud migration · Migration planning

What we change, in order

  1. 01Security and runtime. Unsupported PHP versions, frameworks and dependencies, patched or upgraded first.
  2. 02Deployment. Manual releases replaced with a pipeline, staging and rollback.
  3. 03Boundaries. Legacy APIs and the database migrated behind stable interfaces, one slice at a time.
  4. 04Cloud. Infrastructure moved only once the application can be deployed and observed reliably.

Sound familiar?

The problems we are usually called in for.

Most legacy systems do not need to be thrown away. They need the specific things that make them risky fixed, in order. Modern PHP is a capable, actively maintained platform; the risk usually sits in unsupported versions and unmaintained dependencies, not in the language.

  • 01

    PHP that cannot be upgraded

Applications stuck on PHP 5.x or 7.x because a framework or extension blocks the move to 8.x.

  • 02

    Outdated frameworks

Laravel, Symfony, CodeIgniter or custom frameworks several major versions behind, with no upgrade path mapped.

  • 03

    Legacy APIs

Undocumented endpoints that partners and front-ends depend on, so nobody dares to change them.

  • 04

    Security updates on hold

Known vulnerabilities in dependencies that cannot be patched without breaking something else.

  • 05

    Database migration

Schemas grown over a decade, no migrations under version control, performance problems nobody can trace.

  • 06

    Manual deployments

FTP uploads, hand-edited servers and no staging environment, so every release is a risk.

  • 07

    Cloud migration

A single VPS or on-prem box that has to move to AWS or Azure without downtime or a rewrite.

Approach

Assess, prioritize, migrate, validate.

A sequence designed so the system keeps running and every step can be reviewed before the next one starts.

  1. 01

    Assess

Codebase, dependencies, database, deployment and security posture, documented in a report you own. Includes the hidden risks: unsupported runtimes, unpatched libraries, single points of failure.

  2. 02

    Prioritize

A ranked plan by business risk and effort. Security updates and blocking dependencies first; nice-to-have refactors last or never.

  3. 03

    Migrate

Incremental changes behind stable interfaces: upgrade runtimes, extract services where it pays off, move data and deployments to the cloud with rollback at each step.

  4. 04

    Validate

Automated tests, parallel runs and monitoring confirm behaviour before cut-over. Handover documentation so your team can operate what we leave behind.

Technical review

Start with a technical review of your application.

Send a short description and, if possible, a link to the application. We reply with questions, a proposed scope for the review and its cost. No commitment beyond that conversation.

A review covers

  • Runtime, framework and dependency status
  • Security updates and exposure
  • Database and API migration options
  • Deployment and cloud migration path
  • Ranked plan with effort estimates and a fixed price for the review itself
